Making Sense from Nonsense
Recently we did a group activity in our written communication class. There were 8 of us in each group. Every group had to come up with 20 totally disconnected words. These were then passed on to the other group whose job was to come up with a story containing these 20 “totally disconnected words” !!! Though the idea was a little bizzare but in the end if was real fun when those stories were read. One of them even sounded a bit logical. Read on to see those words and the story we conjured up.
- Words:
Barack Obama, Enigma, John McCain, Bermuda Triangle, Pizza Hut, Pebbles, Porcupine, Hatrick, Milky Way, Shehnai, Sodium Chloride, Dr. Scheme, Napthalene Balls, Sholay, Rajnikanth, Psycho, Dungeon, Grotesque, Donkey, HypercubeStory:
Rajnikanth was very fond of donkeys. Hence he went to bermuda triangle, But to his dismay he didn’t find any donkeys, so he started collecting pebbles. He saw a porcupine and got afraid so he ran to a dungeon nearby. On his was back he met a psycho named John McCain who told he went to visit the milky way where he owns a pizza hut. Rajnikanth was tired by the conversation with the psycho and went to Dr. Scheme. He was offered sodium chloride to prevent dehydration. Also he found naphthalene balls in a beautiful hypercube at the doctors place. On return from his journey he went to see the movie Sholay where he found the Shehnai music in a song sequence very grotesque. He found a person in the theatre and was very impressed by his enigma and charm. The person told him that the plays cricket well and once took 22 catches in a single match and also a hatrick. That person was Barack Obama. - Words:
Tree, Ethanol, Piston, Starfish, Verkhogansk Mountain, Pink, Windows XP, Andromeda Galaxy, Refill, Hari Oil, Coal, Door, Neuron, Malaria, Guitar, Filer, Pepsi, Projector, Tag, Fair & LovelyStory:
I was working on a project for developing a new scooty engine where the piston would be operated by coal and ethanol. As usual I arrived home late. I was too tired to cook so I had a can of Pepsi. I fell asleep as soon as I lay on the bed. When I woke up I found the door was ajar and my room ransacked. Windows XP had crashed. My guitar lay on the floor. My filer, Fair & Lovely, Hair Oil, and other cosmetics were scattered on the floor. There was a pink tag on my left arm and my pen’s refill was lying beside me. The projector was running a video clip on a continuous loop. It was showing a message that I had been infected with a rare kind of malaria and that was the reason for the pink tag. It mentioned that to get cured I would have to go to the Verkhogansk Mountain on the planet Neuron of the Andromeda galaxy. There a star fish on the only tree of that mountain would be my cure. I started sweating profusely after watching the clip. Suddenly I woke up only to find out that it was just a nightmare. - Words:
Dr. Scheme, Jupiter, Quintessential, Eradicate, Roller Skates, Idiosyncratic, Oblivion, Tintu, Antediluvian, Affidavit, Concot, Mushroom, Microprocessor, George W Bush, Paper, Camouflage, Tyro, Three, Zephyr, XenophobiaStory:
George W Bush, who is a tyro in the thick of good deeds is trying to eradicate Xenophobia with Tintu, who is oblivious with the quintessential fragrance having an idiosyncrasy that resembles a strange thing like a Roller Skates, on the stony ground of Jupiter are working together on Dr. Scheme on an antediluvian microprocessor. They are in camouflage eating three mushrooms focused on an affidavit and a paper in front, sitting amidst of a zephyr. Finally they come up with a concortance on nuclear deal.
Well, it took around 15-20 minutes to make up a story. We followed two methods. First, simply start writing and put in the words whenever you think they might fit in. That was the approach followed in the third story. The second option is to categorize the words into similar groups. Then try to come up with story. This was the case with the second story. The first story combines a bit of both methods.
If you find this interesting, you are most welcome to come up with a story with these words on your own.
